Keeping Organized
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Because I work at home, you would think my days are really laid back with no set structure of things I have to get done right now. Things are exactly the opposite around here. If I don’t plan out my day, I don’t get anything done. Whether it’s laundry, dishes, just the daily house cleaning, or work, I’ve got to write it all down to keep myself organized and on task. I’m bad about having a ton of notebooks around my desk. Normally I’ll choose one and make out my list of daily things I have to do. Half the time I forget which notebook I used for my list, so I have to waste time searching through them all to find out exactly what I have planned for the day. Things would be so much easier if I just had a personal organizer on my computer. I’ve tried a few programs like this, but I just haven’t found one yet that I like.
I was checking out Achieve Planner time management software, and I think I’m going to give it a try. There’s a free trial download, so I don’t have to waste money on a program I don’t like, but I can still save myself the time and energy of trying even more freeware programs that don’t work. The list of features Achieve Planner offers is so huge I just can’t list them all, but you can see the full list for each version at www.effexis.com/achieve/feature-comparison.
Reality TV Hits An All Time Low
I normally don’t watch a lot of TV at night, and I tend to watch even less news in the late hours, but hubby left the TV on tonight, so I left it on as background noise. I wasn’t really paying attention, but something caused me to just turn and look at the TV for a minute. ABC News was on, and what I saw thoroughly disgusted me, and not in the that’s nasty I’m going to barf way, but in the OMG how can you do something like that way.
Apparently a Dutch reality TV show will showcase a terminally ill woman who wants to donate a kidney to someone on the waiting list. The 37 year old woman has a brain tumor that is untreatable, so she will sit on stage with 3 people hoping to receive her kidney. Viewers will be encouraged to call in or text message to try to persuade the woman to choose their favorite kidney recipient.
I’m sorry, but I believe this is the most unethical thing I have ever heard. How can you take something so serious as people who are dieing and seriously need organs to live and turn it into a TV show? It didn’t shock me very much to find out that the show will be produced by Endemol, the same company responsible for Big Brother and Fear Factor, especially after the Australian version of Big Brother failed to inform one of their contestants of the death of her own father. What is the entertainment industry coming to?
The Dutch government is completely opposed to the show, but there are no laws prohibiting it from airing. The Dutch Education and Culture Minister, Ronald Plasterk is against the idea.
The intention of the program to get more attention for organ donation may be applaudable, however based on the information I now have, the program appears to me to be inappropriate and unethical because it is a competition.
Pardon my French, but No Shit! As much as I already dislike reality TV, this is just plain out wrong. I believe there are much better ways to convince people to support organ donations that don’t involve making 3 people with serious illnesses basically grovel at the feet of a dieing woman in front of the world.
Crappy
This is the worse Woot Off I have ever seen. Seriously, every other item at least is a Woot killer! Who wants a remote control robot for $80 that doesn’t even look like it’s that much fun? How many Sony MP3 players do you really have to sell? Not another Roomba…although I do want one, just not right now! Where are the normal hoards of flash drives? That’s really what I need! I didn’t stay up all night, then sleep only for 3 hours to watch this load of crap sit on my screen all day. Oh well, I guess not all Woots can be great.
Bloggerwave
If you’re looking to add another notch in your paid blogging belt, or if you’re new to the paid blogging scene and looking for a place to start, check out Bloggerwave. There aren’t a lot of offers right now, but the pay is great. I just received a $30 payment today! It’s fairly easy to write 50 words for $10 if you’re looking for a little extra pocket money. Although the company is fairly new, and they have had a few hiccups with Paypal (which have been resolved), the company has worked hard to resolve any issues and to make sure their bloggers receive payments. I will definitely continue to work for them in the future as long as there is work for me to do!
Soap Soap Soap!
Lisa over at RPSoapworks has done something very very bad! She introduced me to Etsy, and I have to say I’m already hooked! I just ordered my first batch of soap samples, and I’m sure there are definitely going to be many many many many more orders to follow. Looks like I’m going to need another real job just to support my soap habit!
Oh yeah, and the Woot Off’s still on! I haven’t ordered anything yet because I haven’t seen anything I want, but I’m sure there will be at least one thing I want before it ends. I really want the flying monkey!
