The Bike’s Transmission
Do you know what happens when you put over 21000 miles on a brand new motorcycle in about a year’s time? The transmission goes. That’s right, the transmission on the bike is shot. We met up with a few of our friends for a small ride in the twisties this afternoon, and all was well. We were taking it easy anyway because the front tire is bald. I’m not very happy about that. We ordered a set of Pirelli’s from Cycle Gear over a week ago, but thanks to UPS rescheduling the delivery repeatedly, they still aren’t scheduled to deliver until Thursday. That’s a week later than they should have delivered.
Anyway, so we took it easy in the mountains, then we hit Dairy Queen for a bite to eat. We left Dairy Queen, and headed home, and that’s when the trouble started. We got out of town and found ourselves stuck behind some really slow trucks. Hubby was going to pass them, but decided not to because we had a friend following us who didn’t know the area too well. We came to the 4 way where we were leaving our friend, and hubby took off. As soon as he accelerated and hit 2nd gear, the gears slipped out, and we felt the entire bike bounce. We made it about a 1/2 a mile and got stuck behind a really slow car. Hubby went to pass the car, accelerated in 2nd gear again, and the gear slipped in and out about 3 times. We barely made it passed the car. Hubby took it easy for the rest of the ride home. Once we got to the house, he pulled the bike up and down the driveway a few times, then he completely lost 2nd gear.
Looks like there’s definitely a new transmission in the future, but thankfully it’s still under warranty, and the dealership will have to replace it. We’ve had a lot of problems with this bike, and there is absolutely no reason the transmission should be falling apart after only a year. So what if it’s got 21,000 miles on it. The bike, for the most part hasn’t been ridden hard.
