I checked into the Blazer a little more today. We had a huge storm hit, so we weren’t able to take it for a test drive, but we went back up to the lot and grabbed the vin # so I could run my CARFAX report. I also go inside and checked out the interior really well. I looked at it, but I didn’t take the time to look it over much yesterday. We found that the driver’s seat has a problem. The handle to raise and lower the back of the seat is broken. That’s no big deal to me. I know exactly where to find a replacement seat in excellent condition, but I’m definitely not paying full price for anything that’s got a broken seat.
The CARFAX report came back pretty good, but it makes me ask a couple questions. I learned the car has had 3 previous owners, then the car lot. The first owner was a rental car company in Florida. I know what you’re thinking. A rental car will have all sorts of problems. Luckily it wasn’t an actual rental car. The Blazer was used as a company employee vehicle, and all the maintenance records were maintained. They also put only about 24,000 miles on it a year, for a total of 70,434 in the entire 3 years they owned it. We normally put about 70,000 a year on our cars, but that’s with hubby commuting for work. The 2nd owner bought the vehicle at auction. It was auctioned as a company fleet vehicle no longer in use. That owner kept it in South Carolina for almost 5 years before it was sold again.
Now this is where I’m wondering about the 3rd owner. The 3rd owner purchased the car from the 2nd owner in Indiana. That means the 2nd owner either was living in Indiana at the time or the 3rd owner purchased it and moved it to Indiana. The 3rd owner received a new owner title in March of ‘07. That owner only kept the vehicle for 2 months before trading it into the car lot for another newer, but still used vehicle. Either there was something wrong with the car or the 3rd owner just wanted something else. I’ve got my cousin checking the records for the vehicle from the day it came into the dealership on May 21st. I love having connections!
We’re going back tomorrow to test drive it, and that’s when our mechanic will be going with us. We talked to the owner of the dealership today and got full clearance to take it to our friend’s garage for the check. If all goes well it looks like I might finally have another SUV by the end of the week.
