From Good To Bad

Today was a very interesting day. When I got up this morning I fully intended on spending the day with hubby, but I wanted to get some cleaning done. That was when I decided to put him to work going through his boxes of crap. I left my woot refresher running so I’d know when the next woot off item popped up, and I was able to grab a nice gaming mouse for $5.

After hubby got tired of sorting through crap I helped him out on the porch. He’s been dieing to get outside, so I thought he would enjoy relaxing on the porch swing for awhile. His feet still look pitiful, but at least he was able to get out.

I decided to let the puppy run around outside, too, but he didn’t get to stay out as long. Even though it was overcast all day, it was still just too hot for him. I had to tie a rope to his leash to give him room to run around on his own. He kept trying to chase cars when I let him run without it. I really want to get him one of those fence-less systems 0829071701.jpgso he can run around the whole yard.

He ran around for about 30 minutes, then I had to take him back inside even though he had a huge bowl of ice water on the porch. At least I got to snap a couple cute photos of him, but since I was using my camera phone all but one came out blurry.

We headed to my friend’s new house to help her put together some bunk beds for her son. I tried to convince hubby to stay home, but he really wanted to get out of the house. I loaded him up in the Blazer with his little backless desk chair, and it worked out great. He rolled around for a couple hours while I helped her put the beds together.

Unfortunately we got a phone call with some bad news while we were there. Hubby adopted a Yellow Lab/Pyrenees mix, Gus, when he was in high school, but when he moved out his parents asked that the dog stay with them. Unfortunately hubby’s mom came home this evening to find Gus in the yard howling in pain and unable to move. Hubby’s dad called to tell us this, and told hubby he thought Gus was dieing. Since hubby couldn’t rush over there to see him, it tore hubby up inside.

My mother in law rushed him to the emergency vet thinking he got hit by a car since he was puking up blood and had escaped his dog lot today, and we went home to wait on news. She called about 20 minutes ago to let us know that Gus hadn’t been hit by a car, but he has developed a massive tumor in his stomach. Unfortunately the vets said it was pretty much too late to do anything about it, so he had to be put to sleep. No one was able to notice that he probably hasn’t been eating much lately because their other dog has probably been eating the extra left over food. At least we know he’s in a better place now, but it’s amazing how a day can start off so nice and end with such sorrow.

Downsizing and Shopping

Aug 31, 2007 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Shopping

Hubby might not be able to walk, but that doesn’t mean I can’t put him to work. We spent most of the morning going through boxes and storage containers of junk we don’t need. We’ve got so much junk in this house, and I’m tired of it. Hubby is such a pack rat! I know I keep things, too, but I have a total of 3 boxes of stuff from my childhood stored here while hubby has whole closet full of nothing but Legos and Garfield books.

I’m trying to convince him to pull out a lot of this stuff to Ebay. I already have quite a few ideas of what I’d like to do with the money. First I would put some of it towards hubby’s hospital bills if we don’t qualify for the hospital’s financial aid program. It’s been a week, and we have yet to receive a bill, so I’m kind of scared about that.

There are a lot of things I’d like to buy for the house to make it look nicer including new blinds all around, new curtains, and new Garden Lighting for the sidewalk. I’ve been trying to convince hubby to get some solar powered lights for awhile, but he doesn’t think we need them. I do! Our front yard is so dark at night thanks to the big tree in the front yard that it’s almost pitch black. I hate taking the dog outside at night just because I know if he somehow jerks the leash out of my hand I’ll never find him. He blends in. Sure I could use the porch light…if it worked. The wiring in it is old, so the light blows on a weekly basis.

I’d rather pick up some nice garden lights to go along the sidewalk or in the flower beds. I was checking out some of the sales going on at Online Discount Mart, and I like what I see. I fell in love with a pond fountain I saw over there. Man I’ve really got to convince him to Ebay his crap!

Yes there’s a Woot-Off going on. Yes I’ve already bought something! Yes, hubby’s had to talk me out of buying a bunch of other stuff! Damn you Woot! One more week, and I would have had cash!
