Nurse To Grandma
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
My dad just called me with some bad news. My Nana went to a play last night at a local church, and she fell on her way out. The steps at this particular church are very steep in the front, and she ended up mis-stepping which ended in a broken ankle. I haven’t seen her yet, but it’s pretty bad. She’s got to have surgery tomorrow so they can insert a plate. Daddy put her on the phone for a couple of minutes, but she’s so doped up she could barely talk to me. All she could really tell me was that her meds are making her sick, so even though she sounds like a 3 year old with the giggles, she’s throwing up every few minutes. I feel so bad for her. Times like this I’m glad that I work my own hours from my home. She’s going to need someone to help take care of her, and it looks like that someone will be me. I just get finished nursing hubby’s ankle, and now I’m off to take care of another one.
5.11 Tactical Military & Police Blog
I’m always on the lookout for new blogs to read, and I found one today that’s very interesting to me. 5.11 Tactical is a police and military oriented blog that caught my attention. I’ve always been interested in both police work and the military. I think it stems from the fact that I’ve always been surrounded by people in both work forces. Hubby was in the army, my cousin who is just like a little brother to me just got back from Iraq, and my dad was in the guards, but now does some work for SLED. That’s caused me to always have an interest in both the police and military, and that’s why I find this blog interesting. If you know someone who’s in a police or military work force introduce them to 5.11 Tactical. They might just learn about some gear that they don’t know is out yet, or they might be able to find a discount for something they really want to add to their uniform.
BRRRRRR
It’s just so freakin’ cold today, and I’m really not ready for it. This is a typical Southern fall, but I’m still not ready for it. Last weekend I wore shorts and capris all weekend long. Today? I’m sitting here in my flannel pj’s wrapped up in hubby’s flannel robe with a blanket over me. The current temperature outside is 40, but thank goodness it’s supposed to get up to 70 by this afternoon.
I know I’ve mentioned before that we have wood heat. I’ve been wanting to purchase one of those electrical fireplaces to put in our bedroom, but we just haven’t gotten around to it. Our bedroom always stays really cold even with a fire burning around the clock just because our bedroom and bathroom windows are so drafty. Hubby’s tried to fix it, but with this house being so old we’d basically have to replace the windows, and that’s not an option right now.
I didn’t want to build a fire last night because Hubby still needs to clean the chimney out when he gets home from work today. Instead I folded out the futon in my office, threw one of our mattresses on top of it, and I heated the room up for a little while with a small floor heater I have. We shut the room off from the rest of the house, and we stayed nice and cozy all night. I’m not doing that again tonight though. Hubby’s going to have to help me clean the chimney as soon as he gets home so we can build a fire.
Don’t get me wrong I do love my wood heat, but sometimes I would like to take the easy way out by flipping a switch on the wall for warmth. Then I remember how much cheaper my power bill is in the cold months, and I head out to the wood shed for an armful of what will keep me warm. At least I never have to worry about losing my heat when the power goes out.
Morphing Fun
How many times have you seen photos morphed together and thought “That’s just the coolest thing!”? I’ve always wondered how easy it would be the morph photos together to create cool, interesting, and even funny photos.
For my high school graduation the school took baby pictures of all the graduates and morphed them into our senior photos. I thought it was super cool to see how similar we all looked to our baby photos or how some of us might have totally changed. I fell into the category of people who looked just like their baby picture. There was no mistaking it was me if you overlooked the fact that I was a blonde little girl.
There are a lot of other ways I’ve thought about using photo morphs, too. My mother in law wanted to morph photos of hubby and I together for our wedding. She thought it would be cool to see what our kids would look like. I gave a big NO on letting that one happen. I do think it’s fun to morph photos together though, and I’ve found a program that will do it for you with no hassle at all.
The program is called Morpheus Photo-Morpher, and I was up and running with a matter of minutes. There are some sample morphs included to help you figure out what to do, but the controls were so easy to learn that it only took me about 2 minutes to morph my photo.
What did I morph? Well I thought it would be fun to morph a photo of myself with Bubba our Olde English Bulldogge. It’s so funny to see our photos morphed together!
If you would like to get a copy or learn more about Morpheus Photo Morpher you can find it at Zoombli. Don’t forget the possibilities of what you can do with this program are endless!
Special Water Just For Dogs
Would you buy special water for your dogs? Avery Beverages thinks you should. The guys who bring you all those gross sounding human soda flavors like Toxic Slime, Swamp Juice, and Dog Drool Soda have decided to cater to your pooches with a special bottled spring water. This doggy bottled water is called Woof Water, and it’s just plain bottled spring water with no additives, but they think it will benefit dogs who refuse to drink tap water. There’s no word on when or where you can buy the actual product. It’s not listed on the Avery Website as of yet.
There are a lot of owners out there who already refuse to give their pampered pets anything other than bottled water, so do you think there’s a market for Woof Water? I love my pooch, but I think this is going a little too far. I already refuse to buy bottled water for myself because I think it’s just a way for companies to make even more money off something that’s already readily available to us.
