Filled Under: Everything Else

Hubby and I have been discussing our new friends hanging around our house.  We’ve had a pack of coyotes hanging around below our house.  My grandparents started hearing pups in the woods around the gardens a couple months back, and over the last few nights hubby and I have both heard them yelping when we’ve walked outside after dusk.

We’ve also got a couple bobcats hanging around.  That’s nothing new.  We’ve always had bobcats in the woods around here, but I’m just not used to hearing them so close to the house.  Last night I walked outside to get something out of the car and took off in a full run from the driveway to the house because I heard one screaming really loud.  If you’ve ever heard one, you know exactly what I’m talking about.  It sounds like a high pitched scream almost like a woman screaming bloody murder.  I knew it was close to the house, and when my grandpa walked out to the pasture this morning he found bobcat tracks right along the fence line about 300 feet from the house.

We were on our way home about 20 minutes ago, and as we came around the curve right before our house I was telling hubby about hearing the coyotes again today, and how I don’t like them being that close to the house.  I looked up just in time to see a black bear run across the road in front of us.  In unison we both went “Holy shit a black bear!”.  We’re both used to seeing bears all over the place farther up the mountain, but never around here.  I’ve heard about people spotting them around here, but it’s just weird to see one running around here in the middle of November.  The weather has everything all out of whack.  It was 75 today, so I bet the bear’s thinking when the heck am I supposed to sleep?
