I’ve Never Been Your Patient

I just got off the phone with a dental office in Greenville. They left me a message confirming my 8:30am appointment for tomorrow, but the problem is I didn’t have an appointment. I don’t have a clue where this clinic is, and I sure wouldn’t choose to drive all the way to Greenville for a visit to the dentist.

I called them back thinking it was a coincidence that they left the voicemail for a girl named “Jennifer” on my phone. I figured they dialed the wrong number, but when I spoke with the receptionist she had my full name, phone number, and address. WTF! Someone set up an appointment with my information!

When I spoke to the receptionist she couldn’t understand how they had my information if I didn’t make the appointment. She basically called me delusional, and said I had been in the office 2 weeks earlier for previous work, and this was a follow up appointment to finish the work. She swore to me I made the appointment, and I swore to her I had never heard of their office before in my life, and I wouldn’t drive an hour and 45 minutes to visit a dentist!

She has a file on the person from the previous visit, so, my big question? How did this person pay for their visit? Half of the visit was paid for in cash, and the other half is to be billed after work is completed via their payment plan.

So after another 10 minutes of arguing with her that I haven’t had any major dental work other than a teeth cleaning done in years she put me on hold to talk to one of the dentists and another woman in the office. The dentist asked her to go over all the information in the file with me. Nothing else matched up.

This woman put herself down as 42. I said do I sound 42? The birthday was March 23. I’m a November baby. The social didn’t even sound like a real social. We all know social security numbers are in the xxx-xx-xxxx format. This chick put down a xx-xx-xxxx number. Duh! What kind of dental office are you if you plan on billing the woman and didn’t check her social? Do you not run credit checks? This is a private practice. Private practices always run credit checks before agreeing to setup a payment plan.

The dentist in the office today is the one who treated the woman, and said he knew exactly what she looked like. I took a photo of my state id, removed the information they didn’t already have, and emailed it to them while I was on the phone for proof. Now, they’re going to file a police report, and hopefully the woman will be busted in the morning when she shows up for her appointment for falsifying information. I’ve got to make a trip to Greenville sometime this week to sign a statement saying I’ve never been a patient of their office.

I still want to know how the hell this woman got my information to use it in the first place. If it was a home phone number she could have easily picked someone out of a phone book complete with name and address, but she didn’t. She used my cell phone number. Thank god she didn’t have any of my really important information, so there’s no telling where she got it.
