The Coyotes Are Back
I’ve got today’s laundry started…yes that never ending battle. I’ve got the second load in the washer, and the first load’s on the line, but it took me a few extra minutes to get it there.
The coyotes are out this morning.
You’d think they’d be hanging back in the woods or at the edge of the woods out of site, but as soon as I walked out the door I noticed my Grandpa’s rooster wasn’t crowing. That normally means one thing…the coyotes are nearby. At least he’s smart enough to keep his beak shut when they’re around!
I spotted them all laying in the middle of the pasture enjoying the sun. Normally if they hear the back door slam they’ll take off running, but these guys are getting a little less scared of us everyday.
You’d think with the traffic in and out of my uncle’s little used car lot next door, they’d be no where in sight, but nope, it isn’t phasing them anymore. I started out the door with Bubba in tow, but I set my basket of clothes on the porch and put Bubba back inside. We don’t keep a real gun in this house, but I’ve got an air rifle we use for scaring them away. It went to the clothesline with me.
As I was hanging out clothes of course I kept a watchful eye on them, and they were definitely watching me. There were 8 of them all together, and a couple of them would get up, walk around, then lay back down…moving closer towards the house each time.
It looks like it’s time to put out some more traps. We use humane ones, and then a local guy comes out to get them. He transports them to a reserve. I don’t know how much longer that’s going to last though. They’re seriously thinking about bringing the law back that pays you to shoot them. We’re absolutely over run with coyotes now.
I’m waiting on my camera to charge up since the battery is dead, and I’m hoping I can get a couple of shots of them while they’re still out there. That reminds me I really need to order a new battery. Mine will only hold a charge for about an hour or two at most.
