16th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Speaking of charities, it’s time to prepare your non perishable items for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 10th!

We all hear about hunger in 3rd world countries all the time, but what about the hunger in America? Did you know an estimated 35 million Americans are at risk of hunger? 12 million of those are children!

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) joined forces to fight hunger in America. Since 1993, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has become the largest single day food drive in the world collecting over three quarters of a billion pounds of food!

How can you participate?

That’s easy! Gather together any non perishable items you may have such as canned or boxed food (no glass jars and nothing that’s expired), and place it near your mailbox or wherever your postal carrier delivers your mail. I normally hang a grocery bag of food from the mailbox. If I’m going to have more than that I tape a note to the mailbox letting my mail carrier know there is a box of food on the porch.

The letter carriers will pickup the food donations as they are delivering your mail, and all food will be taken to a local food bank in your area.
