Cleaning Out The Closets

It’s been quiet around here today, and I’m thankful for that.  The loggers have been clearing trees from the land near our house for about a week, and they’re having to use our driveway to get in and out of the pasture.  Logging trucks in and out of your driveway all day is pretty annoying.

Today is a rainy day though, so the loggers didn’t work.  I’ve had peace and quiet, and I’ve been able to get into my office again.  All week I’ve used Hubby’s computer because my office is closer to the driveway and the noise.  I can’t concentrate in there!  I took the time to catch up on some work I’ve needed to get done, and then I ended up cleaning out two closets today.  I’ve got 3 down and 2 to go before I have them all completely cleaned out and sorted.

My guest room is packed floor to ceiling against the back wall with boxes I’m taking to Goodwill.  It’s taken me a lot longer since I’m sorting, washing, and then packing everything up in boxes.  A lot of stuff is just getting trashed because it’s not good enough to give away to charity.  Hubby has tons of shirts he’s insisted on wearing to work that are falling apart at the seams.  Those got trashed.

Hubby truly is a pack rat, and getting him to part with his stuff is harder than I ever thought it would be.  Why does he need 6 boxes of legos?  Because they were his legos, and he wants his kids to play with those!

We haven’t even started on the collections of baseball cards, comic books, and Garfield books.  I want to keep the Garfield books as well, but I think it might be time to check on values for the baseball cards and comic books.  I know he’s got a few that I could definitely Ebay.

Then there is one closet I haven’t even touched yet that’s full of my junk.  There are boxes of Christmas ornaments from my childhood…stuff my mom doesn’t want me to part with.  I’m going through those boxes, keeping what I want, and she can do something with the stuff I don’t want.  I shouldn’t have to keep it in my house just because she doesn’t want to part with it.  There’s my violin I haven’t played in 7 years.  I know someone could use it.  I might consider donating it to the school.

And last but definitely not least are all the boxes of computer parts…laptop harddrives, cd burners, just a bunch of spare parts.  I planned to keep them for our own builds or for when a customer needs this or that, but most of the stuff just ended up stacked in the closet.  Yeah it’s time to clean house.
