Disqus: Improving Blog Comments?

Filled Under: Blogging, Reviews

I received my latest Startup Schwag bag today, and this month’s t-shirt is for Disqus.

Disqus T-shirt

Now I can’t go rockin’ a Disqus t-shirt without checking out the service, so I signed up. Disqus is a blog commenting system that is supposed to help boost your blog community by giving you an interactive commenting setup. Disqus also provides a type of community where people can comment on your blog posts without actually visiting your blog…or so that’s the way it seems.

With Disqus, your readers aren’t just leaving comments — they’re participants in a discussion that you’ve started.

This is made possible with threaded conversations that are easy to follow and join.

And, of course, it integrates right within your blog.

Commenters on the go? Receive and reply to the discussion from anywhere with email and mobile posting.

It looks cool to me, so I decided to give Disqus a try on Everyday Randomness. At first it all seems a little confusing, so there’s a tour that gives you a little more info.

I just signed up for an account and added the Disqus plugin to this blog. There are also options for other blog platforms (even blogger!) if you’re not a fan of Wordpress. If anyone would like to help me test this out just leave a comment on this post. I chose to only add Disqus to posts that are new or don’t already have any comments. Until I figure out if I like the service or not, I’m not going to possibly screw up older comments.

I'm jealous. We haven't even gotten those shirts yet here at Disqus HQ.

Good to see you've started using Disqus. Let us know what you think.

I'm loving the service so far. I can approve, delete, or reply to my comments straight from my email without having to take an extra step to sign into my blog!

I also love the threaded comments. I've tried a ton of threaded comments plugins, but I haven't been able to get any of them to work after hours of messing with them. This is as simple as installing the plugin and turning it on!

I'm loving Disqus, and the shirt is awesome!

I ended up adding it to my “mummified times five” blog after I left a comment on your blog. (I couldn't wait…lol) and I agree, it's much easier managing comments this way without having to log in to each blogs admin panels.

    Thanks for sharing!
