Just Another Day
Today has been a very lazy day around our house and for good reason, too. Hubby and I stayed up until 5:30am having a movie marathon. We used to do that all the time, but as we’ve gotten older it hardly ever happens. He normally falls asleep on the couch watching TV on Saturday nights by 9.
We both slept through noon. He made himself get up at 12:30 so he can actually sleep tonight. I slept almost ’til 3. I know I’m lazy! We lounged around until 6:30 and decided to hit up Subway for dinner tonight.
Have I mentioned my stove is completely broken now? I’ll have to get a new table top stove thingy because the last eye quit working on me Thursday morning. I went to make myself an egg sandwich for breakfast, and the thing wouldn’t heat up. It apparently finally burned out completely. That’s the same thing that happened with the other 3 eyes, so I knew it was slowly dieing. It’s an old Hot Point from the 70s. I’m down to the oven, microwave, and George Foreman for cooking.
Anyway, while we were at Subway a rescue squad guy came in. He sat down to eat his sandwich, and we heard his little radio go off twice requesting emergency services for motorcycle wrecks. The first one was up on the mountain, so I knew it was probably someone who didn’t know how to ride properly in the curves or who was going way too fast. The second one turned out to actually be a moped accident right down the road from my house. Guy was already drunk, and he was trying to ride his moped to the private bar in town to get more beer. Idiot.
Just hearing about those two wrecks reminded me of the post I wrote the other day on Moto Madness when I was pissed off after talking to the guy who had been looking at used Harleys. I’m pissed off at all the riders out there who don’t think they should wear helmets and gear or learn how to ride properly. If you don’t care about your own safety that’s your problem, but my insurance rates go up when you wreck and kill yourself, so that makes it my problem as well.
We’re going to hear of more and more motorcycle accidents as the year goes on, and the media have a field day with it. Anti-motorcycle groups try to say it’s because motorcycles are so dangerous, but they don’t take into account how many people are switching over to motorcycles without any experience like the Harley guy I wrote about.
I feel like asking if I can set up a table at the next bike night full of fliers that I’d be willing to print myself just to get information out to more people about taking the Motorcycle Safety courses. Ya know, it doesn’t do much good around here though. South Carolina is one of the very few states that doesn’t offer the classes for free, so a lot of riders aren’t willing to chock up $250 to learn how to ride properly and safely. I think something should be done about that.
