Life Without Promeris
Bubba’s got to go to the vet Saturday morning, that is if the funeral arrangements don’t change. If the time changes to earlier in the day I’ll have to cancel Bubba’s appointment and try to work him in tomorrow.
He ran out of Promeris last month, and instead of putting him on his next round the vet wanted us to hold off for a month. Now that Bubba is 2 he wanted to give his skin allergies time to flair a little. If it didn’t we’d know he’s most likely outgrown his skin allergies. If he flaired up, we’d know the Promeris is keeping things suppressed.
Well the poor guy definitely still has his skin allergies. Now he’s always chaffed around his neck from all that extra skin and his harness. It used to be really horrible, but things looked better after we switched from the collar to a harness full time. We only put his harness on him when he’s going outside, but he is still pretty much hairless on those extra skin flaps that create his wrinkles.
When we got out of bed this morning though he looked rough. He had postules come up on his neck overnight, and the poor guy is definitely feeling bad. His face is also broke out, and he looks like he’s seriously in need of acne treatments. He was moping around, and you could tell he was running a fever before I even had a chance to check his temp.
I had already scheduled his mid-year exam for Saturday morning, but I called the vet anyway. He said he couldn’t work him in today, but it should be fine to wait until Saturday to see him. I told the vet he had that “bacteria smell” on his neck along with the postules, so he immediately called me in an antibiotic prescription, and said we’ll definitely be putting him back on the Promeris as soon as he does some updated skin scrapings.
Bubba’s definitely feeling better tonight. It was too cold to give him a full bath since he freaks out in our tub. He’ll get a full bath Saturday at Miss Kitty’s after he has his check-up, but for now I gave him a good baby wipe rub down, and I thoroughly washed all the areas where his skin is irritated. I started him on his antibiotics, and I put his enzyme conditioner on his neck. I put Zymox in his ears, and he’s already perking up. I just took his temp again, and it’s dropped 2 degrees. Now he’s curled up in front of the fire, and I hope he keeps feeling better.
It’ll take at least a few days before the Promeris to start working, but at least now we know it’s definitely doing it’s job. I just hate seeing my bully baby being sick.
