Filled Under: Family & Friends, News, Personal

Apparently the post I had written and scheduled to post Friday as well as 2 I had scheduled for this weekend didn’t post like I had planned.  I guess I’ll have to mess around with them later to see why they didn’t post.

What I need to do right now is tell you about something really important that will be going on next weekend that I’d like everyone in the area to check out. I know a lot of my readers live no where near me, but quite a few of you are in the Upstate, and you’re the ones I’d like to speak to right now.

Wylie Boys Musical Benefit April 25, 2009 from 5-10pm in honor of Missy Wylie

Wylie Boys Musical Benefit April 25, 2009 from 5-10pm in honor of Missy Wylie

Next weekend there is going to be a fundraiser, The Wylie Boys Musical Benefit, in Clemson, SC, behind Columbo’s Pizza. This benefit is very special to me because it’s to honor Missy, our family friend who was murdered on Valentine’s Day this year. The benefit will raise money for her two sons who were left behind with no parents.

My mother-in-law provided me with the press release issued to the local papers, so I promised to publish it.

Musical benefit to raise money Missy Wylie’s sons

Friends of Missy Wylie are holding a Wylie Boys Musical Benefit on April 25 to help provide for her sons who were left without parents following their mother’s tragic death earlier this year. Five local bands will perform from 5 to 10 p.m. in the lot behind Colombo’s Pizza, where Missy worked for more than 20 years. Food and beverages will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. and will include pizza, sub sandwiches, soda and beer. The music begins at 5 p.m. with Detour, The Codependents take the stage at 6 with The Stroll Bums following at 7. Singular Muse is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and Picture Me Free will play at 9. The event is being sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Bring your lawn chairs, but no coolers or pets are allowed. Come out for good food, good music and a great cause. Additional parking is available in the SC National Guard Armory parking lot. Donations to help the Wylie brothers can be sent to the Melissa Wylie Memorial Fund, in care of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 193 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC 29631. Contact person for the Wylie Boys Musical Benefit is Peter Skewes, 864-506-6246.

If you’re in the area on April 25 please consider joining us for this event. There will be some great music, including my father-in-law’s band The Strollbums, and lots of great food including $2 pizza, subs, and beer.

All proceeds will go to the Wylie boys who are learning to deal with this new life that has been dealt to them. One is adjusting to being a 7 year old without parents while the other is adjusting to the fact that he’s not just a college student anymore, but is now raising his little brother. These brothers need all the help we can give them, and I’ll definitely be there to show my support.

If you’re interested in joining us but need directions you can find them on this page. The page will be updated to look more like a website hopefully later today, but I quickly setup the basic page to provide the flier, press release, and an option to receive driving directions if you’d like to join us but aren’t sure how to get there.

There will be a page setup for online donations soon, and I will also be sharing that when it is available.

My niece in Texas found your web site while surfing the internet for anything connected to her cousins.

I just want to thank you for getting the word out about the benefit. My sister Pam, who was able to attend along with our parents and her family, told me this morning that about $10,000 was raised!! Unbelievable! It has just amazed my family how much help, understanding, etc. has been given to our boys and in extension to my family. Missy’s murder was and is a shock that we will be dealing with for the rest of our lives. We have truly felt blessed by the love and support extended by the Clemson community.

Thanks again for your help and support.

    Linda,

I only hope we can continue to raise this much every year! Missy was a very dear woman who was very close to our family, and we miss her greatly. At last count yesterday evening we were told the total was $50 shy of $13,000, and that blew me away! I never imagined we’d raise even half that! We are here to help and support the boys in any way they need it for years to come.

That is absolutely amazing! I am another of Missy’s sisters. I was unable to make the trek to S.C. b/c I live in Texas. That is so wonderful That the community has really rallied around these boys. It leaves me speechless, and to think we were concerned about how these boys would make it. It brings tears of joy to my eyes that my baby sister was so well loved.
God Bless each and everyone of you!
I willsend that $50.00 to make it an even $13,000.00
