Filled Under: Rant

Let’s just say I haven’t been a happy camper today.

I started out in such a good mood this morning, but things continued to roll downhill all day.  I woke up around 7am too excited about the ultrasound to sleep any longer, but I soon found myself with the most intense heartburn I’ve ever experienced…and it decided to plague me all day.  Bring on the Tums!

Other than that things went pretty well until we got to the hospital.  Apparently when my doctor requests a certain type of ultrasound she doesn’t always get it.  When we got there the ultrasound tech asked why we were scheduled for another one, and I confirmed it was because there wasn’t a visible spinal cord shot during the last ultrasound.  She left the room for a few minutes and returned saying Anmed’s doctor didn’t feel the need for the 3D, so we didn’t get one even though that’s what my doctor asked for.

That combined with the heartburn was enough to put me in a bad mood, but it only got worse.  The tech thought the best way to convince the baby to “roll over” was to dig the ultrasound wand into my stomach and bounce it up and down.  She did this several times, and twice it hurt so badly it brought tears.  I can only imagine little miss Elliana sitting in there thinking WTF is this woman doing to me? Her efforts weren’t even successful, and all it took was me nudging the side of my stomach a little to get the baby to move around.

To top it all off we ended up with the shittiest ultrasound pics I’ve ever seen.  Seriously. Hubby moved the printer into the new area that’s becoming the office, so after I hook it up again tomorrow I’ll scan them so you can see just how shitty they really are.

Sigh.  At least my doctor got the shot she needed, and we know our baby girl is healthy.  That’s what really matters, but the pregnancy hormones and crappy day still had me upset.

And to top off the day?  The freakin’ Eagles signed Michael Vick?  Of all the teams to royally piss me off why did it have to be my Eagles?

I have officially removed the Eagles Infant Cheerleader dress from my baby registry.  I’m not supporting them until he’s gone, and neither is my baby girl!  On that note, Hubby’s ready for bed, so I think I’ll try to sleep again.

Since when does one doctor get to cancel another doctor’s orders? That is just completely wrong. I would making a complaint about it because your doctor ordered that 3D ultrasound, and the other doctor had no business questioning any part of it period.

Also, that ultrasound tech sounds like she needs to be re-taught how to do her job! I’m so sorry for all the irritation you went through today. :( Hope tomorrow is so much better for you!

I was bitching about it to another friend who was supposed to have a 3D last week, and she said they did the same thing to her…decided it wasn’t required because it was only for an image that the first tech missed instead of an actual medical reason. She even went to the other Anmed campus in another county, but she ended up being treated the same way.

We tried to weigh out why the hell the hosp doc would go against the ob/gyn, and all we can figure is we’re both on Medicaid right now, and we’ve both heard Anmed is known for doing shitty things to Medicaid patients b/c they know they most likely won’t get paid for the full procedure. I know quite a few Medicare patients who feel they weren’t given fair treatment b/c they were Medicare.

The hospital is supposed to send me a survey about the appointment or have someone call me for a follow up, and you better believe they’ll be getting an earful. I left a message on my doc’s machine since I didn’t get outa the ultrasound ’til after my doc’s office closed, but I’m sure she’ll be none too happy when she hears the message!

Oh, and after telling me on the phone we could record the ultrasound we were denied when we got there. I swear it’s all about liability these days and making sure nothing has a chance of coming back to haunt them.

Can she send you to a different hospital, maybe? I am at a loss since I have no clue other than I would have pitched a fit right then & there.

They ended up getting the image and measurements that were needed, so we don’t have to worry about going back. She originally sent us to Palmetto Baptist since my doctor’s office is actually an extension of their hospital. When they couldn’t get the shots she needed she sent us onto Anmed like they do with high risk patients or anyone who’s blood test comes back showing possible problems.

I guess Anmed’s doc figured if we weren’t there for an actual problem we didn’t really need the 3D…which we didn’t. I wasn’t as pissed at the fact that we weren’t getting the 3D as I was at the fact that she went against what my doctor requested. We’re going to Vision of Life in Piedmont for a 4D ultrasound as soon as we can afford it.

[...] Unfortunately I have to report that we didn’t get the 3D ultrasound.  There was a huge fiasco with all that and the hospital doctor deciding we did not need a 3D when the 2D showed what my doctor [...]
