Hubby and I have been considering our options for a new heating system for the house, and I seriously don’t know which option to choose.  We had planned to have this taken care of before the baby arrived, but when she decided to surprise us 5 weeks early it kind of sent us scrambling to make sure we could heat our house for her.

I’ve mentioned previously that we use our wood stove as our main source of heating, but I just don’t see us being able to use it with a preemie.  It might be ok since it’s not an option fireplace, but I just don’t want to chance it.

I’ve gotten around the problem so far by keeping the baby confined to one side of the house during the day.  That way I can heat just the living room, dining room, and kitchen area, and our one large Sunbeam low profile heater takes care of all three spaces.  I’ve got a Sunbeam flat panel ceramic heater that helps heat the rest of the house at night.  I’m happy that it only takes 2 heaters to heat the whole house, but I know that won’t last long.  Pretty soon we’ll be feeling those colder temps, and we’re going to need more.

Because we don’t pay rent right now I felt it’s only fair that we offer to pay for the new heating system.  I originally wanted to go with natural gas, but we don’t have that option available to us yet.  Hubby wants to go with electric central heating, but I’m leaning more towards propane.  We’re kind of stuck right now because neither of us wants to give in.

Hubby thinks if he convinces me to go with central heating he’ll be able to convince me to put in a central vacuum system at the same time.  We’re going to have a hard enough time coming up with the cash for the heat system much less a vacuum system that we don’t need.  I can’t even imagine having to replace a central vacuum motor every time I suck up too much hair and burn the motor. If you’ve got long & thick hair like mine you’ll totally know what I mean! So yeah, it’s a lot to think about, and we’ve got to figure out something soon. I don’t want to spend the winter with the baby confined to one room because I’m struggling to keep the house warm.
