If I were to place an ad in the newspaper today it would read “Frustrated Mom Seeks Expert Burper”. Seriously I feel like I need someone to teach me how to burp my child properly. It’s not that I don’t know how. It’s that she just doesn’t want to do it. In the hospital the nurses had a very hard time getting her to burp, but we were told it was mostly due to how small she was. Now I don’t know what to blame it on, but it’s very frustrating since we’re constantly dealing with painful gas that makes her scream.
Not long ago I was standing in the drug store contemplating whether I needed to go ahead and start a wrinkle treatment. Now I stand there comparing baby gas drops and looking for something to fix the bags under my eyes.
Boy has my life changed in the last 6 weeks, but of course I wouldn’t change it back for the world. All I want is to fix the problem that is causing my little girl so much pain because it’s so frustrating watching her scream every night. I’ve gone completely off dairy products hoping we’ll see some change in about a week, but I know the not burping has to contribute to it.
Other than that I really don’t know what to do, and the doctor really doesn’t have any other advice for me. She keeps saying if it’s not the dairy then she’ll just eventually grow out of it. I know there’s not always an explanation for what’s happening, but as a new parent it’s hard to hear that your child may be in pain for months and months with no relief.
Most of the painful screaming fits have been happening at night, but yesterday they hit at random times. She took 3 naps during the day that lasted about 45 minutes each, but she kept waking up in pain. She finally went down at 9pm for 2 hours of sleep, but after 11pm she was up every hour until 7am this morning. Now she’s no longer screaming in pain, but she’s wanted to sleep all day. She may have me up all night again tonight, but I’m going to let the little thing sleep as long as she wants today after the night we had…and I’m going to join her.
