After the power bill we just got I’ve got to do something to save a little extra cash somewhere. Maybe I need to get some insurance quotes again to see if I can save some cash there. It’s ridiculous how expensive power with Blue Ridge Electric is right now. Our power bill has gone up exactly $100 each month over the last 2 months.
The company is claiming (and they even sent out a pamphlet about it) everyone is experiencing excess power usage because of the cold snap we had last month. Extra cold temps means extra power needed to keep us warm. In theory that’s probably correct for most people, but that doesn’t explain our power bill. We have a wood stove, and that’s our main heat source. Yeah we use our electric heaters from time to time, but in the last 2 months we’ve used them less. We know they won’t keep us warm enough, especially with the baby, so there’s almost always a fire going in the wood stove.
We’re not the only ones scratching our heads at Blue Ridge’s claim. I’ve spoken to quite a few people who have outrageous bills who have either natural gas or propane heat. A neighbor who’s been working out of town almost the entire billing period told us his power bill was over $500. He’s a single guy, and no one has been in his house while he’s gone, so he’s baffled at how his power bill is so high.
My father-in-law asked about our hot water heater, something I had already considered. If your hot water heater is in a cold portion of your house, and you have a cold snap it’s going to pull more power. Fortunately our hot water heater is in the kitchen about 6′ away from the wood stove specially placed where heat will get to it.
I’ve already called the power company to let them know what I think, but what can ya do? I do plan on writing a letter to the AG asking that they look into it. Why are all of our power bills supposedly so high due to the cold snap if Duke Power customers only saw an average increase of $30? $30 versus $200? Something’s just not right about that.
At least ranting about it helps me feel a little better.
Wow it’s been a busy week around here. It’s not like we’ve had a lot of running around to do. I’ve just been super busy with Elliana. She’s playing the “I don’t want to sleep” game. Yesterday I couldn’t get her to take a nap at all until 4pm. Then she only slept for an hour, and she wouldn’t nap again.
Her colic was back last night in full force, and we had a bit of a scare. Around 1am after hours of screaming non stop she suddenly stopped and smiled. I laid her down on the bed to change her diaper, and she did something she’s never done before. She started making gagging sounds and gasping for air. Then she started crying as Hubby grabbed her, but as she was crying she still sounded like she was fighting for air. I picked up the phone to call for help as Hubby ran her to the door and cold air, and she stopped crying and started breathing normally again.
She did it again this morning when she was waking up, and this time I got to hear exactly what it was. She woke up really congested, and she coughed before gagging. I had just tried to suck her nose without any luck, and when she gagged it all came out her mouth.
I called the doc again, and they had me bring her in. I’d called earlier this week about her congestion, and they told me to keep doing the humidifier and nasal spray, but it hasn’t been working, so her doc wanted to make sure there’s no chest congestion. She said her sinuses probably started to drain, and with all the crying it got her choked up. She said there’s really nothing we can do about it, but other than the head congestion there’s nothing wrong. Thank goodness because it really freaked me out. The even better news is her congestion has slowly gone away throughout the day, so hopefully she’s getting better.
Once we knew she was ok we decided to do a little running around while we were out. I checked out a kid’s consignment store a friend just told me about, and man did I see a bunch of stuff I’d love to buy. I bet those stores make a ton of profit from mother’s like me who want to buy every cute thing they see.
Anywho Hubby and I took advantage of the fact that we were near his sis, and we let her babysit while we grabbed a bite for dinner. We normally go out on Friday night, but since there’s a possibility of bad weather we decided to go ahead and do that tonight. Now I need to try to get some work done while Elliana is sleeping. I haven’t worked at all this week! She hasn’t really given me a chance to!
Good morning everyone! We’re up bright and early this morning.both of us! I didn’t have to fight to keep Elliana awake this morning. She woke up with Hubby’s alarm this morning, and she’s been bright eyed since. Maybe she’ll get herself on a pretty decent schedule today!
Right now she’s sitting in her bouncy seat having some play time while she’s super alert. She’s giggling and swinging those little arms wildly while she kicks her legs like crazy. I love watching her. Whenever the little monkey on the toy bar swings she giggles and coos like crazy.
After this we’ll do some tummy time, and then hopefully she’ll eat again and go down for a nap. I may nap with her or I may save my nap for later and get some work done. I need to remember to empty the diaper genie and change the air filter in the air purifier. I’m hoping I’ll have time to clean the bathroom today, too, but if not no big deal! As usual I’m going to enjoy every minute I can with the little one.
It’s music to my ears right now. A certain little baby is taking a nap, so I’ve been running around getting as much housework as possible done. I don’t expect her to be out too long, but this puts her on schedule for another nap right about the time Hubby gets home from work. Maybe that means she’ll sleep while we’re shopping.
Yep, we have to go to town yet again tonight. Hubby called and said somehow he got a big hole in the bottom of his boot today at work, so we’ve got to get him a new pair. Maybe while we’re out I’ll check out what that store carries as their top diet pills. Hubby didn’t find any last night that he wanted to try, and since I’m not going to use them I’m not buying any without him with me.
I need to buy a bag of socks for the baby, too. I realized yesterday she has maybe 3 pair of socks that fit her right now. She’s got big ‘ole feet, so the socks that should fit her right now are all too small. I pulled out the 3 pair of 6-9 month socks I have, and those fit her pretty well. My poor child. She’s going to be stuck with clodhoppers like me! I figured she would since we both have pretty big feet. Oh well.
I think I’ll jump off here and get some cooking done while she’s asleep. I figure if I get to work I can get a chicken parm bake in the oven before she wakes up. It should be done right in time for Hubby to get home from work.
