Well we’ve had a few very eventful days around here. Friday when I wrote that I thought Ellie would be battling her teeth over the next few days I was totally right. She’s got 2 shiny and seriously sharp little teeth popping through now. Both of her bottom central incisors have finally made their way through the gums, and a bit of tooth is shining through in each spot.
She battled the first one off and on again over the weekend. Saturday she wanted to sleep about twice as much as she normally does, and that worked in my favor. My Dad called Saturday afternoon just as we were heading to a friend’s house to grill out with a bit of a pasture emergency. Yep, I said pasture. In case you forgot…I am the farmer’s daughter, so when an emergency in the good ‘ole pasture arrives we have to hop to it.
My Dad was calling because he had a cow in labor, and she wasn’t making any progress. She was going to need assistance, and he was going to need an extra pair of hands or two to help with it. We called our friends, canceled our plans (and they totally understood), and we took off to the pasture to help. I didn’t have time to find someone to keep Ellie, so she went with us. All I had to do was use the truck to help herd the soon to be mama towards the coral until my step mom arrived, and Ellie slept through most of it. It took 2 hours for my dad and hubby to deliver the new calf, so Ellie played in the car with me chewing on everything in sight (thankfully I had lots of teething rings in her diaper bag), then I took her for a stroll around the pasture. Unfortunately that meant I had to spend some time later that evening cleaning dried up cow poop off the stroller’s wheels. LMAO I don’t know too many moms who’ve said they had to do that!
Sunday we spent most of the day taking care of my sister’s baby shower. I carried Ellie’s booster seat with me, and she stayed content in it while I decorated (the decorations finally showed up just in time on Saturday), and she was the main attraction after the guests began to arrive. My sister didn’t mind being upstaged a bit by the little one. She was glad I’d brought her along. By the time we made it home Ellie was so pooped from being passed around by all the guests that she passed out for a good long nap. I was afraid her extra long nap would hinder her sleep that night, but to my surprise she fell asleep at 10:30pm and slept until 11:30am this morning! She only woke up once throughout the entire night, too!
She didn’t actually want to get up at 11:30 this morning. I figure all that sleeping had something to do with her teething. She was pretty grumpy most of the morning, but this afternoon she was in a great mood. She even did something I wasn’t expecting for awhile. She kept reaching for my cup of water, so I decided I’d let her try to sip out of it. I thought it’d be a mess at first, but the little booger drank out of it on the first try with no problem! I’ve spent over $30 on sippy cups in the last 2 weeks until I finally found one she’d take, and then 3 days later she drinks straight from a cup! Go figure! Oh, and she figured out how to use a straw last week, so I think we’ll forego sippy cups all together.
Then tonight right about the time Ellie was supposed to have her last breastfeed of the night she got fussy again. She turned away from the breast, and that never happens. This child will take boobie 24/7, so I knew something was up. 2 hours later she popped through another tooth, filled her belly, and went straight to sleep.
Now I’m pooped as well. Hopefully I can find my way to bed before 3am since I still have a ton of cleaning and laundry to do before my head can meet my pillow.
