Cellars Wine Club Review

I recently was given 3 wines to try thanks to Cellars Wine Club.  These wines were provided to me free of charge in exchange for taking the time to try them and share my thoughts.  Please note I am not a wine connoisseur.  I do enjoy a glass of wine every now and then, and I sometimes drink socially.  You will not find me using many technical wine terms, and I am far from an expert.  I do enjoy a glass of wine from time to time, though, and when I do drink it I do not want to drink a wine that doesn’t have an appealing taste.  I was very pleased with all three wines that were given to me, and I want to share with you my thoughts on those.

The Abbey Page 2007 Pino Noir Oregon (McMinnville, Oregon) is fruity yet has an earthy aroma, was very pleasing, and even Hubby who isn’t a wine drinker was enticed to take a sip because of the aroma.  Flavors of red currants and vanilla come through.  I am definitely no wine connoisseur, but as an average drinker I felt just a tad more vanilla in the flavor would have made it more enjoyable.  In other words the flavors weren’t quite as balanced as I would have liked.  It paired pretty well with a grilled salmon filet at dinner. In fact I had a second glass the next night to relax a bit before bed.  My first glass was at room temperature.  I didn’t allow the wine to return to an appropriate temperature on night 2, and I actually preferred the taste of the wine straight out of the fridge.  Chilled provided a smoother drink.

I took the Chateau Sainte-Marie (France) 2007 Bordeaux Superieur Reserve and the Huru Wines (New Zealand) 2009 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough to dinner with my in-laws Sunday.  As we don’t normally prepare gourmet meals around here we served the Bordeaux at room temperature with a surf and turf dinner.  Everyone enjoyed the smoothness of this wine.  The beautiful Bordeaux blend has a rich deep purple color and was very pleasing to the eye. Your nose met with the aroma of cherries as soon as you lifted your glass, and everyone enjoyed how smooth it was.

My MIL prefers white wine with her desserts, so we tried the Sauvignon Blanc with dessert.  This wine is best paired with fish, especially yellowtail sashimi, but it was also a nice partner to our dessert which consisted of a variety cheesecake platter and Boston Cream Pie.  The Marlborough has melon, citrus, and fresh tropical notes, and it was very pleasing.

Overall we enjoyed all 3 wines, and I thank Cellars Wine Club for sending me one from each of their three most popular clubs, The Premium Wine Club, West Coast Wine Club, and the International Wine Club.  Whether you are an novice who likes to try new types of wine or a connoisseur Cellars Wine Club has a club for you to enjoy.
