She’s A Big Girl Now

Today didn’t feel like a Monday at all to me.  That’s probably because Ben was stuck at home because of the rain, and our weekend was extended by a day.  He was happy to get a 3 day weekend, and I was happy he was here to accompany Ellie and I on a doctor’s visit.

Ellie had a rash pop up on Wednesday.  It’s a mild rash, and honestly I didn’t think anything of it when I saw it on her back.  I figured my Grandma probably washed one of Ellie’s shirts in a detergent that irritates her.  By Saturday the rash had spread around her stomach and down her legs, and that did begin to worry me.  It’s a fresh colored and light pink rash comprised of patches of little pimples.  Because she’s also had trouble going to sleep over the last few days and she’s been irritable at night I decided to take her to see the doctor.  She hasn’t been showing any signs of an ear infection, but I know a rash can be a symptom, and last time she had one her only symptom was she refused to sleep.

The good news is she doesn’t have an ear infection, and the rash is most likely a viral rash.  If it starts to spread towards her face or if it doesn’t begin to clear up in a week then we should call the doctor, but otherwise she’s okay.  She was such a big girl at the doctor’s office, too.  Normally she refuses to stand on the scale and doesn’t want the doctor to touch her unless she’s in my lap.  Today she hopped right up on the scale then followed the nurse straight to the exam room without even looking behind to see if I was following.  Then she hopped up on the exam table and waited patiently for the doctor to arrive.  She talked to the doctor, told her she had a rash, and basically took over the whole appointment by herself!  I sat there wondering when my little girl decided to get so big!

Ben was quite amused by the whole scene as well, especially when the doctor listened to her heartbeat and Ellie reached her hand out for me to hold like she needed moral support.  We laughed the whole way home about that, and when I asked Ellie what she thought about going to the doctor today she replied “I was big girl, Mommy!”

Yes baby.  You were a very big girl!
