Behind The Scenes
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I know I’ve been awful quiet today, but there’s a reason for that. I’ve been around, but I’ve been doing some “behind the scenes” work. I got hit pretty had with spam comments this weekend, and as usual when I have an extra large number of spam comments come in at once, I check them out. I spent 2 hours sending out cease & desist letters to spammers who stole not just an excerpt but my entire post.
After I did that I did what I’ve been doing with all spam comments. I blocked the IPs from having access to my sites or feeds. I’m surprised at how much spam I’ve cut down on lately by doing that. I know it could cause me to lose readers, but I’ve also blocked out a couple countries completely…the ones that are known for massive scams and spam comments. The good thing is I haven’t seen a drop in readers since doing that, so I’m keeping those countries blocked for now.
I might be back later on, but for now I’m going to try to get some of this mess in my office cleaned up. I’ve got way too many boxes laying around full of CAT5e cables that are too short to use, extra cable lines for the TVs, and more USB cables that you can ever imagine. I need to go through them, ditch the ones that are old, and combine all the small boxes into one large box of cables.
Playing Catch Up
This weekend reminded me why I hate cramming what should be a full weekend trip into one day. I am still super exhausted. Add the trip Saturday and running around all day yesterday for Mother’s Day together, and I was one tired chickie. I ended up sleeping pretty much all day today, and I know “they” say you can’t really catch up on missed sleep, but sleeping all day sure did make me feel a lot better!
Right now I’m going through zeefoto.com and moonshinephoto.com because they’ve already got some of our pictures up. A friend of mine sent me some photos she took as well, so hopefully I’ll have those up soon.
She sent me one shot I just love. I’m still trying to figure out who took it before I post it, but it’s a photo of me in the Blazer followed by the Porche I was drooling over all day and Allison and Hubby are right behind on the bikes. Hubby made me transfer it to his phone last night so he can use it as his wallpaper.
Now I’m trying to wake myself up enough to get some work done. This house is an absolute wreck. On top of that I’ve got a friend here that I just setup on one of the other computers. He wants to buy a playstation 3, so he’s over here trying to find who has the cheapest prices. He’s already totally lost, so I have a feeling I’ll end up having to just look it up myself.
Oh well, I shall return!
Accents and How We Speak
We know we all have accents, but does the way you talk fit in with the stereotypical dialect in your area? I know mine does. I’m southern through and through, and yes I’ve got the accent to prove it. Some of you have heard me on a few videos I’ve done, and I’m not denying that accent by any means. I’m proud of it because it makes me who I am.
Then again sometimes people are too quick to judge us just by our accent. There are those people out there who hear my accent and automatically assume I must be dumb as dirt just because I’ve got a thick southern accent. It just gives me an opportunity to prove them wrong.
Does your accent show through on your blog? Do you write the way you speak? Plenty of people could probably note that I’ve got a southern accent just because I do use certain words or lingo that are considered a “southern thing”, but I do try my best to stay away from saying things like “down yonder” all the time!
The quiz I just took the What American Accent Do You Have? quiz, and my southern accent shone through.
| What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The South
That’s a Southern accent you’ve got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don’t have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it. |

Changing Post Titles Font With CG-FlashyTitles Plugin
If you haven’t noticed (I’m sure you have) I installed a new plugin yesterday that lets me change the font of my post titles. The plugin is CG-FlashyTitles. I love what I can do with it, but I’m also having a few issues with it.
You can’t currently click on the title to view the post page. I’m trying to figure out how to fix this, but for now I’ve made sure there’s a link at the bottom of each post called “Permalink” that links to the post page.
If anyone is using this plugin and experienced this same issue please let me know how you fixed it! So far I haven’t found anything that would help me figure out how to fix it, but I haven’t had much time to search for a fix. Hopefully I can figure it out by the end of the day!
Much Better!
Wow, I’m definitely sticking with Zyrtec and not going back to Allegra. I feel soooo much better today! The Zyrtec my doctor gave me is the OTC version, and it’s a lot cheaper than my other allergy meds, too, so I think it’s definitely a winner.
I actually feel good enough to get some stuff done today, and let me tell you I really need to do some cleaning. I haven’t done a damn thing since I started feeling like total crap, and this house is an absolute mess. Of course Hubby didn’t go out of his way to help me with any of the house work, so I’ve got stuff piled up everything that needs doing.
I’ve already start laundry and dishes this morning, and I thought about messing around in the guest room, but I think that might set my allergies off even more. I’m imagining all the dust that’s built up in there since we use the room mainly as a storage room. Alley’s cat tree is in there, so I’m at least going to pull that out today. He has a big one and a little one, so we stuck the big one in storage. Well he’s finally destroyed his little scratching post, so it’s time to pull the big one out again.
As much as I know I need to do all this I don’t want to though. I was laying on the couch last night watching TV, and a design for a new blog header popped in my head. I sat down for a few minutes to give myself a rough design in Paint Shop Pro, but I didn’t have time to really do what I wanted to it. Now I want to work on designing it before I totally forget the details I wanted.
I really need to get back in the habit of organizing my day, what I do when, and how long I have to accomplish it. I’ve kind of let all that go out the window!
