Procrastination Station & Oktoberfest Kickoff

Oct 16, 2009 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Entertainment

So much for finishing the bathroom walls last night!  That plan was definitely thrown out the window after Hubby came up with 1000 reasons why it couldn’t be done last night.  My MIL had pointed out the paint color debate was just another procrastination technique on his part, and boy does she know her son well!

I doubt it will get done tonight because there is a good chance we’ll end up at Oktoberfest this evening.  Just the thought of the annual festivities has me craving German food. Plus I’m ready to hit up all the tents showcasing local artisans.  Every year I spot some adorable handmade baby items to ooh and ah over, but this is the first year I can finally buy something without it going to waste!

If we don’t make it down there tonight I may head down tomorrow morning by myself while Hubby is doing a side job in NC.  That gives me something to do, I won’t have to listen to him complain about walking and shopping so much, and it helps me avoid the larger crowds.  That does sound like the better plan.

I’m not all freakish over the swine flu thing, but I have been limiting the time I spend in public and taking the extra precautions necessary to try to avoid getting sick at all costs.  I’m not completely becoming a shut in, but I do realize I’m in the high risk category, and getting sick with any flu virus right now could land me in the hospital.  At least I’m far enough along in my pregnancy that Elliana could be delivered early if I were to get sick.  Still, I don’t want to take that chance, and I’d like to avoid the bigger crowds if possible.

That’s why I think I’m choosing not to go to Oktoberfest tomorrow night which will be the busiest night of the weekend.  The beer tent will be crowded with all of our friends (surprisingly no one has asked me to DD yet), and the field will be covered with everyone waiting for the fireworks.  Hubby and I have already decided we’ll just ride up to Main Street and watch the fireworks from the tailgate of the Blazer as usual where we can wrap up in a blanket during this unseasonably cold weather!

Speaking of the weather, I need to go vacuum out my other little heater in case we need it tonight.  I don’t want to smell burning dust when I turn it on, and I’m not sure Hubby has the chimney ready to burn a fire tonight.

Off To The Flea Market

Jul 14, 2009 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Entertainment, Projects, Shopping

I just wanted to shoot off a post before I go to bed to let everyone know I probably won’t be around much tomorrow.  If I do any blogging during the day you can catch me on Informal Critique.  That’s because I’ll be away most of the day, so any blogging I do will be mobile, and that’s where all my mobile posts go (when my phone and blog cooperate).

I’ll be out most of the day because my MIL and I are going to the local Pickens  County Flea Market in the morning.  We’ve rented two tables so we can hopefully get rid of a little more of this stuff we didn’t sell at the yard sale.

If it’s going to sell this will be the place! You can find everything you can imagine there from vendors selling designer clothes for almost nothing to livestock, and there are even vendors selling over the counter medicines in bulk and what they think are best diet pills you can find.  I’ve definitely found a few treasures over the years.

I’ve spent plenty a Wednesday riding around on my Daddy’s shoulders whining that I was bored and wanted to go home. He’d normally keep me happy for a while buy promising (and following through) to buy me a bunny, guinea pig or duck on the way out. Back then I hated getting drug off to the flea market on a sunny summer Wednesday morning because it meant getting drug out of bed before sun up. These days I love going out there and digging through the treasures even though the days I get to go are few and far between.

Honestly I should already be in bed since I have to be up really early.  The grounds open at 4am, and people start pouring in bright and early.  By day break the place is packed out, especially in the summer, so I can almost bet I’ll be too busy to do any blogging.

Cross your fingers, and hope we sell out early so I can come home for a late morning nap!  I know I’m going to be dead tired, and I also know if I don’t get out of there before noon I’m going to end up spending what I do make. That place is hog heaven for thrifty shoppers who like to pack rat junk like me!

Weird Search Terms

Jul 14, 2009 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Blogging, Entertainment

Normally I completely understand exactly why my certain keywords bring people to my blog. Over the last year my blog’s keyword analysis would tell you that “promeris”, “promeris for dogs”, “promeris flea control”, “promeris demodex”, and “promeris demodex mange” are the top terms leading searchers here due to my article about how we use Promeris to treat our bulldog’s demodex mange as well as fleas. There isn’t a whole lot of positive information out there showing up on blogs about Promeris, so people come here to read our our success with the product.

I also see a lot of keyword activity for “ups no left turns” which leads me to believe people were actually interested in my ordeal with UPS and their stupid rules that prevented them from turning into my driveway, leaving the driver to park in the middle of a dangerous curve.

All of those search terms leading to my blog are understandable.  What I don’t understand is why I’m receiving mega hits today from searches for “Hailey Glassman” and “the bachelorette spoilers”.  Maybe Google has gone whack today because these are terms I would never connect with any of my blogs.  I don’t think I’ve ever blogged about either.  Then again I don’t really understand it when the weird sex fetish keywords lead here either.

I still find it a bit entertaining to see exactly what people are searching for even if they don’t find it when they get here.

Friends Of The Zoo

May 30, 2009 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Entertainment

Mentioning our possible trip to the zoo has got me thinking about how I’d like to convince Hubby to purchase a Friends of the Zoo membership package next year.  Like I mentioned previously the Greenville Zoo is our small local zoo (compared to going to Zoo Atlanta or Riverbank Zoo since it’s only 45 minutes away), and it would be a great place to take the munchkin throughout the year.

Plus I’m imagining how great it would be to walk around the zoo pushing the stroller.  I’m just imagining the baby weight melting off with all that walking with or without the help of the best weight loss pills I can find. It’s a great place to go because being a small zoo it doesn’t take all day to explore. You can spend about 2 hours at most viewing all the animals before you’re ready to call it a day, so you can be in and out in the morning before it gets really hot out in the summer time.

The munchkin would get in free until the age of 3, and it’s $6 per adult, but even at that price it ads up after multiple visits.  The family membership is $49 a year, so just paying for the two of us it’d pay for itself in 4 visits or 3 if we were adding in the $3 kids ticket when munchkin gets older.  Plus you also get 6 guest tickets that can be used anytime during the year (so we could ask JD, Dawn, and Baby JJ to go with us) and you get in free or at discounted prices at a ton of zoos throughout the country including Zoo Atlanta and Riverbank Zoo, so to me that’s definitely worth it.  Oh yea there’s also a 10% discount to the gift shop, and you get free or discounted tickets to special zoo events like the annual Boo In The Zoo, something I’d love to take the munchkin to.

I’ve already convince myself, now I just need to convince Hubby it’s a good idea.  He’s going to say “but what if we don’t go 3-4 times a year” and I’m going to say “but if we already had a membership I’d be more likely to hop in the truck for a random Saturday morning zoo trip!”  I think it’s a good argument!  Honestly I’d go ahead and purchase a membership as soon as I get paid, but I don’t think it would do us any good this year.  I don’t see us visiting the zoo that often between now and the time the baby gets here, and there’s going to be quite a few months when we don’t take the baby anywhere.  I do think it might be a good idea to purchase a membership around March or April of next year because the munchkin is going to be the perfect size to giggle and ooh and ahh over the animals next summer.
