*As Seen On TV* Egg-Tastic Review

Egg-tastic egg cooker review

Brainfogglespostdisclosure

Do you struggle to cook breakfast on busy school mornings? Do you wish you could provide your kids with a warm breakfast, but barely have time for cold cereal?

Our mornings are super hectic now that my oldest is in school. I would love to cook breakfast for her every morning, but between getting her ready for school and battling with a sleepy 2 year old I just don’t have time. I want an option to feed my child something warm and nutritional that will prepare her for the school day ahead, but I don’t have time to stand at the stove cooking all morning. I’m also dealing with a very picky eater who will only eat a handful of breakfast foods, but eggs are her favorite.

When I was given the opportunity to try the Egg-Tastic Ceramic Microwave Egg Cooker I was a bit skeptical that it would actually work. I have mixed feelings about “As Seen On TV” products, and I’ve never had any luck cooking eggs in the microwave.

The Egg-Tastic Ceramic Microwave Egg Cooker is a small ceramic crock that holds up to 4 extra large eggs. Using it is simple. Crack your eggs into the crock, break the yokes, place the lid on the crock and place it in the microwave, and cook for the amount of time listed on the provided cooking time chart.

It really is that simple. If you want to add extra ingredients to make an omelet you add them directly into the crock (with a maximum of 2 eggs), and whisk the ingredients together. You can find additional tips and recipes on eggtastictips.com.

I was pleasantly surprised when I whisked my egg in the crock, microwaved for 59 seconds, and found a ready to eat egg in such a short time. My daughter was super excited that I was able to make eggs so quickly!

If I’m cooking eggs for everyone in my family it seems to take forever. Everyone wants their eggs made different ways, so I have to cook a different batch for each person. With the Egg-Tastic I was able to make 2 servings of eggs for my girls 2 different ways in less than 5 minutes (including prep).

*Note the instructions say you must break the yokes. My oldest doesn’t like her eggs scrambled, so my husband attempted to make eggs without breaking the yoke. We found out the hard way that this will cause pressure to build. The lid blew off, and we’re lucky nothing was damaged! After some trial or error we discovered we can break the yoke and cook it without whisking.*

The Pros:

  • Cooks quickly in microwave when you’re short on time.
  • Kids love it!
  • Easy to make individual servings without dirtying pans.
  • Great for dorm rooms where cooking tops are banned but microwaves are allowed.

The Cons:

  • Although the instructions say “up to 4 extra large eggs” the lid has blown off every time I’ve tried to cook 3 or 4 large eggs together.
  • 4 eggs cook inconsistently. We had to stir the eggs and cook again in 15 sec intervals until all were cooked leaving some overcooked.
  • Takes a lot of trial and error to produce eggs with the perfect texture. A few seconds too little equals runny eggs while a few seconds too long equals rubbery eggs.
  • The crock gets extremely hot, and you must use oven mitts to remove it from the microwave. There is a silicone topper on the lid that prevents you from burning yourself removing the lid, but you cannot eat the eggs directly from the crock as the instructions suggest.

While I don’t think the Egg-Tastic Ceramic Microwave Egg Cooker can replace eggs and omelets cooked in a pan when you have time to do so, it is a quick way to cook eggs when you’re pressed for time. It makes my kids happy, and I can send my daughter to school knowing she had a nice warm breakfast.

I think it’s a great option for college kids who can’t have a cook top in their dorm room, and I would have used the Egg-Tastic to cook eggs when I was in college. It sure beats trekking across campus to the dining hall for a warm breakfast before class when you want something other than microwaved oatmeal.

The Egg-Tastic Ceramic Microwave Egg Cooker is available from the Egg-Tastic website for $10 + $4.95 P&H. You receive 2 Egg-Tastics and must pay P&H for each separately. The Egg-Tastic is also available on Amazon for $14.99 with free shipping for Prime.

How I Earn Cash Back On Generic Brand Groceries Without Coupons

I’ve tried clipping coupons, and the truth is couponing overwhelms me. Spending hours matching coupons with the latest sales papers, clipping all those coupons, and lugging around a huge binder every time I go to the grocery store…

Couponing just isn’t for me!

I may be inclined to reevaluate my relationship with couponing if I thought I was actually saving money, but honestly, I always feel like I’m spending more money just to use those coupons. Subscriptions to newspapers I’ll never read, printer ink, printer paper…it all adds up quickly.

Sure, it’s great when you can stack coupons and match deals to get something for free or almost free, but that doesn’t happen very often with the brands I buy. I find I can usually purchase a generic brand at a cheaper price than the more expensive brand with a coupon.

If you don’t use coupons, how do you save?

Just because I don’t like to coupon doesn’t mean I don’t want to save money. I do shop for certain items during sales, price match, and use discount stores to purchase a lot of my grocery items. I have also developed a love for programs that provide cash back on products I already buy.

Ibotta is my grocery shopping bff!

ibotta_any_brand

Ibotta is a free shopping app available to both Android and iPhone users that pays you to shop! Yes, that’s right. You earn money for your purchases without clipping coupons, and without lugging that coupon binder to the store! All you have to do is sign up for a free account, choose a store, and choose your offers.

How do you earn?

Ibotta will offer to pay you for tasks you unlock for each item you want to add to your shopping list. The tasks are super simple such as answering a survey question, reading a recipe, or watching a short (usually less than 30 second) video. After unlocking items just head to the store, purchase the items, and scan your receipt into the Ibotta app. It’s that simple.

There are also extra bonuses and sweepstakes entries that can be earned from redeeming specific offers or amounts. For example, right now you are entered for a chance to win the $500 May Flowers Sweepstakes just by redeeming $2 in rebates by Sunday, May 24th!

You can earn even more by inviting friends to join your team and cashing in offers towards team bonuses!

Once you have accumulated $10 in your account (it adds up quickly!) you can cash out to Paypal or choose from a ton of gift card options.

But what if I buy generic brands?

What makes Ibotta so great and unique is the number of “any brand” offers available. Coupons for generic brands, meats, etc, are super rare, but Ibotta has weekly deals for “any brand” items you most likely already purchase.

Want the proof? You’ve got it!

During my last 2 grocery trips to Ingles I decided to document exactly what I got cash back on. I didn’t even open my Ibotta app and activate a single offer until after my shopping trips were finished. This way I didn’t feel compelled to purchase items that weren’t already on my shopping list. A majority of my Ibotta cash back items were generic brands, and all “name brand” items were either on sale or something we’re brand specific about such as peanut butter.

Here are my results.

Week 1:

I earned $2.10 cash back and finished the “Roses are Red Bonus” earning an entry into the $500 May Flowers Sweepstakes.

Week 2:

I earned $4.50 cash back and finished the “Violets are Blue Bonus” earning an entry into the $500 May Flowers Sweepstakes.

ibotta_any_brand_offers_week2

I didn’t get half my groceries free or earn a fortune using Ibotta, but I’m okay with that. I earning something for my purchases, and it didn’t involve wasting hours clipping coupons and planning a shopping trip…hours I would much rather spend with my family!

Do you use Ibotta or similar programs? Would you rather participate in cash back programs, coupon, or combine both? Share your strategies with us in the comments below.
