Unite Against Bullying During National Bullying Prevention Month

This is a sponsored post on behalf of CustomInk. Affiliate links are included.

Did you know October is National Bullying Prevention Month? According to PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center:

  • 1 in 4 students in the U.S. reported being bullied in 2015.
  • Reasons for being bullied reported most often were: race (16%), body shape (37%), and looks (55%).
  • 19.6% of high school students in the US report being bullied at school in the past year, and 14.8% reported being bullied online.
  • 64 percent of children who were bullied did not report it.

If a single person in this world is being bullied the numbers are still too high, and we need to unite against bullying to stop the bullying before it happens.

CustomInk is working to prevent bullying with the announcement of their 5th annual ‘Be Good to Each Other’ campaign. CustomInk has donated nearly $120,000 towards bullying prevention efforts and sold tens of thousands of shirts for the cause over the past 5 years. Now through October 31st, CustomInk will donate 100% of the profits from the sales of bullying prevention t-shirts to PACER. That’s approximately $8 per shirt going to support bullying prevention!

Walmart and Pampers Team up for Children’s Miracle Network (and $25 Walmart Card Giveaway)

The Walmart gift cards and information have been provided by P&G.

I love it when companies team up to support a cause, especially when it involves the health of children. Walmart and Pampers have teamed up to donate $200,000 to Children’s Miracle Network in June 2015.

Every minute 62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network hospital for treatment. One in 10 kids in North America is treated by a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital each year for ailments ranging from asthma and broken bones to more complicated and life threatening issues like birth defects and cancer. Member hospitals treat 16,000 children in emergency rooms daily and provide surgery for 97 children every hour. Member hospitals provided $3.4 billion in charity care for children in 2012, and this is why it’s so important to team up to support a charity like the Children’s Miracle Network.

Meet a Children’s Miracle Network Child.

Meet Keldon, a 13 year old from South Carolina who has Inoperable Benign Astrocytoma. Keldon is treated at the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital thanks to Children’s Miracle Network.

2014 SC Champion-Keldon

Keldon’s Bio:

It was a moment fit for the silver screen: during the final play of a county basketball game, the ball was passed to Keldon. The world stopped as he took his shot and — score! The ball swooshed through the net and the crowd erupted with resounding applause.

Keldon’s life could be compared to a very challenging game of hoops. At 6 years old, extreme headaches and vomiting led him to the hospital, where he was quickly diagnosed with a brain tumor. This marked the beginning of 18 months of chemotherapy and the implantation of two shunts at the front of his skull. As Keldon’s treatment continued, his family sought comfort in learning about cancer and blood disorders via the hospital’s child life program funded in part by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

While Keldon’s tumor remains benign and inoperable, the aspiring NBA player’s recovery is as miraculous as the moment he made his winning shot. He is full of life and brings a smile to everyone he meets.

How can you help Children like Keldon?

You can show your support for Children’s Miracle Network by purchasing Pampers Swaddlers at Walmart.  A portion of the proceeds from each purchase will go to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to help them continue to provide children with the treatments they need. Visit Walmart.com for more information and other ways to donate.

May Is Preeclampsia Awareness Month

If you’re a regular reader of Everyday Randomness you probably already know I’m a huge advocate for Preeclampsia awareness.

Ellie and I almost lost our lives due to severe Preeclampsia, a disorder of pregnancy I knew very little about until I found myself in the hospital at 34 weeks 2 days pregnant fighting for both of our lives. Ellie wasn’t growing, and my blood pressure was dangerously high, so I welcomed my tiny baby into this world at 35 weeks on the dot.

I was much better prepared to recognize the signs and symptoms of Preeclampsia during my second pregnancy, and I’m very thankful Aubrey and I made it to my scheduled VBAC with a much milder case of superimposed Preeclampsia that developed during labor.

Throughout the month I will be sharing information about Preeclampsia, my from my own battle with Preeclampsia, and how you can help in the battle to find a cure for this horrendous disorder.

Many women aren’t as lucky as I was.  The truth is Preeclampsia is still a major killer of women during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks postpartum. Preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are responsible for 76,000 maternal and over 500,000 infant deaths each year, yet we still know very little about this horrible disorder that wreaks havoc on so many lives.

Know The Symptoms:

If you are pregnant please learn the symptoms of Preeclampsia, a disorder that can turn deadly extremely fast. My own pregnancy went from perfectly healthy to severe Preclampsia in less than 48 hours. The truth is many women who suffer from Preeclampsia never experience any symptoms prior to finding themselves admitted to the hospital, while others will experience many of these symptoms throughout pregnancy.

The Preeclampsia Foundation has put together a video that every pregnant woman should watch.

If you or someone you know is pregnant and experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, please contact your medical professional or visit the ER immediately. Don’t wait around! Preeclampsia can come on “lighting fast” and lead to seizures, strokes, or death very quickly!

I encourage you to visit the Preeclampsia Foundation to find out more about Preeclampsia and consider donating to the Promise Walk, the Preeclampsia Foundation’s fundraiser that takes place throughout the month of May in 43 cities across the nation as well as virtually.
