Is It Over Yet?

Oct 22, 2008 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Rant, Sports, WTF!

I hate hunting season. Deer are running all over the place scared for their lives like the one that ran across the road in front of me last night. It cut between two trucks on the side of the road and across to the other side, so I can pretty much bet whatever hunters were in that truck scared it out.

Then you’ve got the hunters. You’ve people like my dad who keep it simple and “out of the way”. He either heads down state to the hunting camp or he hunts in his own pasture where he plants clover to lure them. Then you’ve got people like the guys my Grandpa lets hunt behind the house…the ones who make me want to scream! The stipulation is they can hunt on my Grandpa’s land if

A. they park out of the way and

B. they try to always let one of us know when they’ll be going into the woods.

There’s one older guy who never does either. He always parks his truck smack in the middle of my driveway or he’s even been known to pull into my driveway just enough to get his truck out of the road. When he does that he blocks the whole driveway, and there have been many times we’ve had to park at my Grandparent’s house because we can’t get in our own driveway. Then the guy never lets anybody know he’s here, and he’s bad about hunting way too close to the houses.

I’ve mentioned it to my Grandpa before, but whenever he checks the guy is never that close to the house. Saturday morning I looked out my bathroom window and saw the guy sitting against a tree at the edge of the wood line. If I can see the guy from my house he’s too close, so I started snapping photos. When I showed them to my Grandpa he was pissed, and he told me he was going to have a talk with the guy.

Apparently he did because this morning the guy decided to be a dick. He beat on my door for what seemed like 10 minutes causing the dog to go into a frenzy until I drug myself out of my warm bed and across the cold house to see what was going on. Then he made a smart ass comment and asked me how far away from the house is comfortable for me.

I said hell you’ve got 200 acres to work with. Be smart about it, and don’t put others in danger just because you’re too lazy to walk any farther. If you can’t walk far enough into the woods to be away from the houses, maybe you don’t need to be hunting. I should have gave him some orovo diet pills and told him to pop a few so he can lose some of that weight. Then he couldn’t claim he’s too much of a “fat boy” to walk very far.

He turned around and walked off all huffy and puffy, and I yelled after him to please move his truck out of the middle of my driveway and either into the pasture or to the side of the garage.

My Grandpa had been working in the yard on the side of my house, so he came walking up when he heard me yell after the guy. He asked what was going on and the guy goes “Your Granddaughter’s a bitch. You better do something about that right quick.” Then he got in his truck and made a show out of having to move it.

I don’t want someone like that hunting here. I sure as hell don’t like knowing old grumpy guy has a gun in his hands. If he going to get all huffy and puffy over the fact that I want him to respect our homes and keep it safe, I don’t want him around here at all. I’m having a serious talk with my Grandma today. She’ll put a stop to it.

Snowboarding & Ice Skating

I’ve been seriously trying to convince hubby to take a weekend trip to Gatlinburg, and I think it might actually happen as soon as the slopes open. I love going to Gatlinburg, and I’ve just had this itch lately to go ice skating at Ober Gatlinburg. It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to do that, and I’ve just really wanted to go lately. My friend Jamie asked us if we wanted to head up there sometime in the near future to do some snowboarding, and hubby said he might be interested, so I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes trying to convince him to go.  I’ve never been snowboarding, but I think it would be seriously fun.  Besides, you know how I love extreme sports! Hubby finally agreed, and I can’t believe what he agreed to. He was so against going until I said I wanted to get one of those funny old timey photos together. As soon as I said that he’s all for it! I guess he really wants to see me in one of those bustiers they always dress the women in. Good lord I won’t be showing that photo to anybody!

The Football Beef

Oct 16, 2007 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Sports

Yes there’s tension in my house again, and this time it’s over football. Just when I thought hubby’s friend and I were starting to get along things had to go sour. It’s quite funny actually. See, I love football, and that’s just one of my things you don’t mess with. I’m not as big into Pro teams as I am College Football, but you still don’t mess with me and my teams. Everyone knows I’m a huge Clemson fan, but a lot of people don’t know my dad is a Gamecock fan. If he comes over decked out in Carolina red I won’t let him walk in my house until he takes off his hat and changes his shirt. Haha I know it’s mean, but it’s this little “game” we have going on. My dad won’t let me in his house in my Clemson shirt unless I’ve got something over it. We’ve also got our team tags on the front of our trucks, and those tend to disappear from time to time. I hate walking outside to find a Gamecock tag on my Blazer!

Yeah, so you can see how I feel about my teams. When it comes to Pro Football I’m a Philadelphia Eagles fan foremost, and I also have to claim the Carolina Panthers since they’re my “local” team. Hubby’s friend is from Indiana and therefore an Indianapolis Colts fan.  This week he picked up a Colts flag for a decent price, and that’s when all hell broke loose.  He actually thinks I’m going to let him hang it up in MY house.  Yeah right!  That’s just funny.  I don’t care if he thinks nobody will see it in the guest room.  It ain’t hanging in my house!

We Win Again!

Clemson Football

After grabbing 3 hours of sleep this morning I woke up to listen to the Clemson vs. Louisiana-Monroe game this afternoon. I love listening to the games on the radio, but I hate when we play these minuscule schools and aren’t televised. It drives me crazy not getting to see all the action, and today would have been a great day to see it.

I was a little worried at the beginning of the game because we let them score on us first thing, but our guys kicked it into gear after that and ran all over ULM. Cullen Harper surprised me. This was only his 3rd game of his college career, and he did a great job. He even made a broke a school record. We were so far ahead by the end of the 3rd quarter that Bowden pulled Harper out and threw Willy Korn into the game along with many of the other 2nd & 3rd string players.

Willy Korn is the kid I’ve been waiting to see. He’s a freshman this year, and I’ve been following him for awhile through most of his high school career at Byrnes High School. This kid is going to be a great quarterback when it’s his time to shine. I also love the fact that he’s a straight A student.

Our 2nd string players ended up letting ULM score a couple touchdowns, but overall it was a great learning experience for them to get out there and play their first college quarter. We ended up winning 49-26, giving us our second win within a 1 week span. 2-0 is a great start for us this season, now let’s just hope the guys can keep it up!
