Straight Through The Finger

Today has totally sucked. I finally slept a few hours this morning, but I woke up feeling like absolutely shit. I feel almost flu-ish. I called Hubby this afternoon to ask him to pick up some medicine for me on the way home from work only to find out he was having a mini crisis of his own.
He was putting cedar shake siding on a house today, and when he was stapling the black paper up behind the shingles he had an accident. His finger slipped right as he went to staple the paper, and he ended up sending a 1 3/4″ staple straight through his ring finger. *OUCH* The staple hit his knuckle and bounced off it, so instead of busting his knuckle it went through the side of his finger. Of course with anything like that the pain doesn’t hit until you have to get the sucker out. The doc jerked it out of his finger with a pair of pliers.
Staple guns are a never ending hazard in our household. This is the 2rd time Hubby has been shot with one in the last year. The other one wasn’t his fault though. The first time one of the guys he works with was being stupid playing with the gun. When Hubby walked by the dude shot him in the stomach with a freakin’ staple. Yeah, dude got fired.
Hubby also had a nail go through his hand when he was just starting out in carpentry about 10 years ago, and I’ve had a staple gun incident of my own. I’ve got a huge scar between my eyes. In high school I was helping build the set for one of our drama club plays, and I was holding a ladder for a guy. He stupidly set the staple gun on the top of the ladder when he went to climb down. Of course the staple gun was knocked off, and I looked up in time to see it hit me between the eyes. I’m just glad it wasn’t one of the industrial ones like Hubby uses.
I’m starting to think I need to ban the use of staple guns around our house. Too bad I can’t ban them at his work.
So Warm Today
Permalink | Shared On: 02 May 08 | Filed As: WorkMan it’s nice here today, but I’m cooped up inside working. I have a huge data entry job today that’s going to take hours to complete, but hey I’m not complaining. It’s worth a lot of money! I just wish I had my laptop running on the network so I could be sitting outside enjoying the sunshine. It’s 80 degrees out right now.
The thing that really sucks is our AC isn’t working. We went to turn on the window unit, and nothing happened. Hubby’s going to hook up our backup unit today to see if it works, but if it doesn’t we’re going to have to go shopping. This house is getting warm, and I’m not staying in here like this! I have two floor fans going, but I’m going to have to take the 3rd outside in a bit for a good wash. It’s caked with dust from sitting in storage.
I’m just taking a quick late lunch break right now, then I’m back to data entry!
Home Business Window Sign
Permalink | Shared On: 17 Apr 08 | Filed As: Computers, WorkI had a customer today ask me why I don’t have a sign in my yard or on my window advertising my home business. First of all I admit it can get a little confusing for some of my new customers.
Sometimes they have trouble finding my house because I don’t have a sign, and when they get here they have a trouble figuring out which door to use. That’s because this is an old house that was once a duplex, so we have two doors on the front of the house. One leads into what is supposed to be the formal living room that I use for my office, and the other leads into the guest bedroom.
Sometimes I’ll have customers knock on both doors because they don’t know where to go. Recently I started sticking a sign I printed out quickly on the one door that says “use other door”, but that’s all I’ve got as far as signs go. There’s nothing officially showing my business name, and that’s something I would like to have.
I realized I can buy vinyl window signs from VistaPrint for as low as $11.99, so that’s something I’m really thinking about doing. I could put it on the window in the room I use as my office, so it would give my customers a better idea of where to go. Then I could order one of those signs that hangs from the mailbox like I’ve seen other home businesses use. Then my customers would have no problem at all finding the house.
What would be even better would be my own little building separate from the house, like the huge unattached garage we have, but my Grandpa can’t even convince my Grandma to clean her junk out of it to give him room for his lawnmowers, so I doubt I’ll ever be lucky enough to convert that to my business space. Besides, I like the setup I have now since I work all ours of the day and night, and the window signs are removable. That means I could take it down when I’m not open for business or when we’ve got something going on here like holiday celebrations, etc.
Best of all, I can either choose to create my own logo design or I can use VistaPrint’s design template to create a sign within minutes. It’s something I’m definitely going to check into.
It’s Snowing
Permalink | Shared On: 14 Apr 08 | Filed As: Family & Friends, WorkI tried to sleep in pretty late this morning since I stayed up half the night waiting for some photos of Hubby riding this weekend to be posted. I gave up about 3am and decided it was just too cold to stay awake any longer.
Here I am already used to the warm weather and we get hit with this cold front. I was laying in bed at 9am trying to make myself go back to sleep just a little bit longer when Hubby text me. I figured he was going to ask if any more of his pics where up, but not. His text said “It’s snowing!”
They just stopped what they were doing to watch while it snowed for about an hour because snow in April in our area just doesn’t normally happen. Me, I’m just ready for the cold to move out again. I’ve gotten to used to the idea that it’s Spring with sunshine and warm weather!
