Death To EVGA

Filled Under: Rant

Have I told you have much I hate EVGA boards? So I mentioned a little while ago that the Monster PC is back at my house, and we’re getting it fixed up again. I originally didn’t have a friggin’ clue what the problem was this time, but it didn’t take me long to realize that one of the pci express 16x slots was dead. So, of course that one’s going back to EVGA and we receive a return. Since hubby’s boss didn’t want to wait for a backup to arrive, he ordered another identical board from Tiger Direct that arrived today.

Hubby was so happy because he had the entire system back together and ready to power up in about an hour. He hit the button to turn it on and I heard that horrible sound that no one wants to hear with a brand new system. Yep, I got the beep code. I was hoping it was something simple, and I was happy when I looked up the code and saw it was a DIMM problem. Simple I thought. Just check the ram, make sure it’s seated right, and hopefully all will be fine. Nope, that didn’t fix it. Hubby took all ram out and started with just one stick. We tested all 4 sticks with no luck, so we broke down and called EVGA tech support. My heart sunk when I heard those two dreaded words…DEAD BOARD.

I seriously don’t think I’ll be buying anything from EVGA ever again. I seriously don’t like the fact that 2 out of 2 boards were either DOA or died shortly after. The first board still has to be returned for an exchange, so there will be a 3rd 680i on its way, but if that one’s dead, too, who wants to help me strangle the guys over at EVGA? At least the second one can be sent back to Tiger Direct for a refund.

I Need A New Camera

I just realized how badly I really need a new digital camera.  I’ve mentioned before that I use my cell phone camera right now, and since I have the LG v9800, it’s got a pretty decent 1.2 megapixel cam, but it’s just not cutting it anymore.  I’ve got a few things I want to ebay, so I set up a little “photo booth” to take pictures of the products.  I haven’t gotten a single decent picture yet.  Even during the middle of the day and with the lights on, I can’t get a picture that doesn’t show up dark and unrecognizable.  I know the lighting in my house is horrible, but I mean come on.  I have to turn night mode on during the daytime to take any picture inside the house.  So, I’m going to borrow my mother in law’s camera to take these pictures, then I think I’m going to use what money I make from this ebay batch to buy a new camera.

Free Minutes and Giveaways From Pingo

Filled Under: Everything Else

I’ve heard about Pingo.com before, but I’ve never tried out their prepaid calling card services. I think that’s all about to change, and there are a few reasons why I’ve decided to give them a go. For starters, you get up to 4 hours of free international calls just for joining Pingo. On top of that, you can get $10 in free father’s day calls, and be entered for the $25 free Merchant Gift Card Giveaway. I have a cell phone just like everyone else, so I really don’t need to worry about prepaid calling cards for the US, but I have tons of friends and family members in other countries, as well as a few in the military stationed overseas, and I would love to get to talk to them. With all these free international minutes, I can definitely do that. I also decided it was time I got a prepaid card to have for emergencies. With all these trips to Deal’s Gap lately, I would like to be able to call home if something goes wrong. If one of us is in a pretty nasty wreck, our cell phones don’t work up there on the mountain, so it would be nice to have an emergency calling card so I could call home if we get into any trouble.

The country rates at Pingo aren’t really all that bad either. Check out the discount prepaid calling cards for India or the discount prepaid calling cards for Australia for some examples of rates per country. I also like how if I do choose to buy a prepaid card, there are no hidden fees I’ll find about later. All the info and prices are given to you upfront. If you’re into using affiliate programs, check their out. Pingo’s program pays $15 for every new customer you refer!
