Baby Sleeps & Mommy Shops

Night 3 of letting Elliana cry ended fairly quickly and easily.  She was out in 15 minutes, and tonight she didn’t cry a lot.  She whined, whimpered, and let out a couple really loud cries, but overall she did so much better.  I’ve been nursing her until she’s very drowsy, then placing her in bed with her Soothe and Glow Seahorse.  I had to walk back into the room to turn it on again, but tonight she was asleep a couple minutes through the second try.  This is definitely getting much easier each night, and I’m now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You’d think her going to sleep and staying asleep would mean I’d get myself in bed to rest more, too, but that isn’t happening yet.  My body is still programmed to stay up waiting for her to wake up again, and if I try to go to bed I lay there tossing and turning.

Instead I’m taking this extra time to get some housework done without having to run to put her back to sleep every little bit.  Once I finished with the housework I sat down to do some shopping online.  I ordered a box of diapers and a laptop charger for my brother-in-law, then I started looking at some stuff I can to order next week when I get paid.

My Grandma gave me her old set of patio chairs that look like this one with the addition of some decorative cutouts on the seat.  There are 2 chairs and a swing, and I’ve had them sitting on the front porch.  I decided today that I’m going to move them to the back patio along with a little table I want to get.  That way we can start grilling out and hanging out on the patio when friends and family come over.  T

he chairs are rather uncomfortable, though, so I want to order some nice outdoor cushions to go in them. I’m really liking these in the Fern color. I’d also like the cushions because I’m kind of scared of Ellie sticking her toes in the cutouts. When I was about 4 years old I did just that on an old metal bench, and I sliced my pinky toe open almost all the way around it. I don’t remember actually slicing my toe, but I remember sitting in the emergency room with my toe sliced open waiting to get stitches. I have a pretty gnarly scar, too.

I’ve picked out 2 different outdoor dining sets I like, so the color I choose will depend on which one I decide to buy.  Otherwise I’d go ahead and order the cushions now so we can start enjoying the patio sooner.   We can’t really dine out there until I get another screened in canopy to keep the bugs away anyway.

Munchkin On The Move

Buying Ellie a walker was the best thing I’ve done lately.  I know there are a lot of parents and experts who are anti-walkers, but we’re all for them.  Of course once she’s big enough to figure out how to get herself out of the thing it’ll go bye bye.  For now it’s perfect for her, though.

We’re going through the separation anxiety phase, so lately I’ve had a hard time doing anything unless I leave her to cry.  I can’t put her in her swing or booster seat and walk 10 feet away in the kitchen to fix her breakfast without her breaking out into a fit.

We had a hard time finding one she would fit in because her legs are so short, she’s in the 10th percentile for height, but we finally happened upon the right one by chance.  A friend of ours had the Kolcraft Tot Rider 2 walker, and when we placed her in it she touched the floor perfectly.  I promptly came home and ordered it, and then I patiently waited for it to arrive.  It was supposed to be here between June 1st-June 4th, but it surprised us by showing up yesterday, 2 days after I ordered it.  I saved myself $14 by not opting to pay for 2-3 day shipping, and it showed up in that timeframe anyway!

This thing is a lifesaver.  Last night it only took her about 2 minutes to figure out how to walk around in the thing, and she took off.  She cried when I tried to take her out of it to change her diaper, feed her, and put her to bed.  We’ve got one of those allergy mattress covers on our bed, and the little booger peed on it last night when I was changing her. She was laying on a changing pad, but she shot a stream of pee over the pad onto the bed. The pad didn’t catch a drop of it!  I put her into the walker while I got the cover going in the washer and fixed her some breakfast.  She happily chased the cat around, and it only took a few minutes this morning for her to bump into things and realize she could turn around in circles.

She happily played while I folded a week’s worth of laundry, did the dishes, took a shower, and mopped the kitchen.  I can’t tell you the last time she let me get so much done without whining the whole time!

Money Honey

I’m sitting down tonight before I go to bed with a list of baby stuff I want to get ordered.  Most of it is for my sister’s baby shower coming up on May 23.  She’s not due until June 13, but it looks like little Alexander might be showing up ahead of schedule.  Her doctors are watching her closely because it seems as if she’s running out of room for the little guy.

Just in case he does show up early I want to go ahead and get some of this stuff ordered so she’ll have what she needs when he arrives.  The rest of the stuff like some clothes in bigger sizes can go into my stash of stuff for her baby shower.

I’ve also got to find something for my precious little one tonight.  She’s in need of a kid version of a cash register because she’s absolutely obsessed with the register where my MIL works.  I saw one awhile back that even had a little plastic removable cash drawer that looked kind of like a mmf drawer for a real machine.

The plastic kid version had the slots on the front like real ones do for receipts and stuff, but instead of dropping into the regular compartment on the drawer the slots routed stuff into another compartment underneath the play money part. This is so the drawer could be used as a type of piggy bank, too.  When she’s big enough we could have her drop her real money into the slots, and surprise her with how much she’s saved.

Of course it’ll be a long time before she’s to that age, so for now we’ll keep pumping our spare change into one of the 4 piggy banks she already has.  In the meantime I’ll buy her a little cash register when I find one, but I’ll keep searching while trying to remember what site I saw that cool one on.  Times like these I wish I bookmarked everything.

Fighting Blackheads

Hubby’s in the floor having Daddy/Daughter time with Elliana, and I’m online doing a little work and some shopping.  One thing I’m thinking about ordering is a blackhead extractor. I’ve never used one, but Hubby could seriously use one right now. I don’t know why, but over the last couple of weeks his nose has exploded with blackheads around his glasses.

Ok I probably do know why. He’s been working outside tearing a roof off a building, and he’s been coming home from work pretty sweaty.  I’m sure the little nose pads on his glasses don’t help.  They probably hold the dirt and sweat in, and they probably help to rub it in deeper.

I think they’re worse around his nose because it’s a hard to scrub place.  They’re all located mostly right under his eyes, and I know I personally don’t like putting a lot of face wash there.  It totally makes my eyes sting to get the stuff close to my eyes.  Now I just have to read some reviews to see which one I think will work best, then I think I will have to order some.
