After falling asleep in the middle of watching football ( I know it totally sucked to miss the end of the game), I woke up at 4am wondering why in the world I felt like I’d had a full night’s sleep. Duh. I forgot the time changed! I didn’t keep up with it because I don’t really have to set any of my clocks back. Our alarm clock needs to be set manually, but it’s been on the fritz lately, so I’ve been setting my cell phone alarm. Everything else in our house auto updates. So here I am awake at 4:50am wondering what I’m going to do with all this time. Hubby passed out on my futon, so I’m listening to him and the dog alternate snores.
It’s freezing in here, too. My cousin came over to watch the BC game with me, and even though I fell asleep on him, he watched the rest of the game. On his way out, he knocked over my floor heater I use to take the chill off sometimes, and now it’s not working. I really didn’t want to build a fire tonight because it would just get too hot in here, so it looks like I’ll be sitting here wrapped up in blankets for awhile.
Boston College lost by the way. That means even though we’ve had a mediocre season, we’ve only lost 2 ACC games. Boston College has lost 1 ACC game, so if we beat Wake Forest next week, then we beat Boston College by some miracle, we’ll both have 2 losses and we’ll move on. Yeah I’m always hoping for another ACC championship, but I’m not going to get my hopes up. It’s definitely a long shot.
When I was in high school I was constantly looking for scholarships. I chose to enter contests, mostly of the writing nature, to win scholarships, and I was lucky enough to win 2 small scholarships that way that were a great addition to the one scholarship I received for academics.
A lot of people don’t realize there are scholarships out there that can be won through contests though. Normally you have to write or design something to be eligible to win, but there are all kinds of scholarship contests out there today. For instance Gallery Collection may be known for their Corporate Christmas cards, but they’re giving you or your child an opportunity to win a scholarship by designing a Christmas card! Yes, it’s that simple!
As long as you are at least 14 years old and enrolled in high school or college during the second half of the 2007 school year you are eligible to participate to win a $10,000 scholarship. Do you realize how much that could help you towards paying for your or your child’s education? 5 years ago my $16,000 scholarship barely covered one school year. If you’re interested in a chance to win this scholarship just visit the Christmas cards scholarship contest website to download your entry form and a copy of the rules.
It’s just so freakin’ cold today, and I’m really not ready for it. This is a typical Southern fall, but I’m still not ready for it. Last weekend I wore shorts and capris all weekend long. Today? I’m sitting here in my flannel pj’s wrapped up in hubby’s flannel robe with a blanket over me. The current temperature outside is 40, but thank goodness it’s supposed to get up to 70 by this afternoon.
I know I’ve mentioned before that we have wood heat. I’ve been wanting to purchase one of those electrical fireplaces to put in our bedroom, but we just haven’t gotten around to it. Our bedroom always stays really cold even with a fire burning around the clock just because our bedroom and bathroom windows are so drafty. Hubby’s tried to fix it, but with this house being so old we’d basically have to replace the windows, and that’s not an option right now.
I didn’t want to build a fire last night because Hubby still needs to clean the chimney out when he gets home from work today. Instead I folded out the futon in my office, threw one of our mattresses on top of it, and I heated the room up for a little while with a small floor heater I have. We shut the room off from the rest of the house, and we stayed nice and cozy all night. I’m not doing that again tonight though. Hubby’s going to have to help me clean the chimney as soon as he gets home so we can build a fire.
Don’t get me wrong I do love my wood heat, but sometimes I would like to take the easy way out by flipping a switch on the wall for warmth. Then I remember how much cheaper my power bill is in the cold months, and I head out to the wood shed for an armful of what will keep me warm. At least I never have to worry about losing my heat when the power goes out.
There’s a Woot Off going on right now, and you know they must be selling something good when you see this.
The sad part is, it’s not a great item for sale right now. There’s just so many people finding out about the Woot Off because it just started a few minutes ago.
